Fifty years have passed since Marilyn Monroe died and the world lost one of its most unforgettable icons. Salvatore Ferragamo created different types of shoes for the star so he decided to celebrate the actress’s legend with a retrospective at the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo in Florence.
The exhibition features photographs, primary documents (like a hand written order for Monroe’s shoes from Ferragamo), movie clips and costumes from her most iconic films (the shockingly sheer dress from Some Like It Hot, the pink one from Gentlemen Prefer Blonds, and the white dress that so famously blew up over a NYC subway grate from The Seven Year Itch). And lots of shoes obviously, it was Ferragamo, after all, who got his start making shoes for Hollywood’s biggest stars. Monroe owned dozens of Ferragamo shoes and 30 pairs are on display at the Museo.
