My Weekly Notebook: Fragrances

Maartje Verhoef for Alexander McQueen 'Bloom at Night' Fragrance Campaign by Paolo Roversi

Alexander McQueen’s creative director Sarah Burton served up a dreamy fall collection filled with delicate, beaded tulle and surrealist prints—but that wasn’t her only treat for McQueen fanatics everywhere.

The next day, the designer announced the launch of McQueen Parfum, its first scent since 2005. The luxe brand also introduced an official fragrance house, which means the promise of more fancy scents down the road.

The inaugural juice, which took Burton three years to create, was inspired by flowers blooming at night, with notes of ylang-ylang, jasmine and tuberose. Sticking to McQueen’s roots in all things gothic and opulent, antiqued gold feathers sit just below the black bottle’s neck, and the lacquered cap is covered in mini studs.

Lexi Boling for Prada Candy Kiss Fragrance Campaign 2016 by Steven Meisel

The house Prada launched a new fragrance, Prada Candy Kiss, that channels the addictive nature of the Candy composition and enhances its characteristic scent of musk. Inspired by obsession and repetition, Prada Candy Kiss is designed to re-activate emotions and impressions.

It evolved from the idea of creating a loop of sensations out of a single signature note wrapped around the body. Musk in its signature purity is omnipresent in the composition; from the upper notes to the base. It evokes delicate white cotton in a sensual fragrant cloud, enriched with uplifting notes of vanilla and orange blossom. The fragrance is developed by Daniela (Roche) Andrier.
The face of the campaign shot by Steven Meisel is model Lexi Boling.

YSL is launching the new Paris-inspired line called Mon Paris, a dazzling fragrance that represents a modern olfactory interpretation of love, free from all the obstacles, dedicated and intense.
Stephan Bezy, international general manager of Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, told  that Mon Paris is “complementary” to Black Opium, representing the new pillar fragrance for core consumer expected to be slightly older Millennials, 25 to 30 years old.

The composition has a fruity start, floral heart and a dark chypre base. It opens with a juicy and sweet blend of Calabria bergamot, strawberry, raspberry and pear. The heart is dominated by datura flower accompanied by a bouquet of peony, Chinese and Sambac jasmine and orange blossom. Airy crystal white musk, ambroxan and an intense patchouli duo provide the provocative classic chypre signature base.

The campaign shot by Clément Durou and Pierre Dupaquier features Canadian model Crista Cober and French actor Jérémie Laheurte shown together in various parts of Paris, including a club, the Metro, near the Eiffel Tower and on the Opéra Garnier’s roof.

The fashion designer Stella McCartney presents her third pillar fragrance called Pop aiming at the generation of "millennials". Her first fragrance Stella from 2003 experienced a great success and many re-editions. Her other perfume launched in 2012 as L.I.L.Y., inspired by her memories of childhood.

Pop is announced as a floral - woody fragranceas, “a mindset that captures the free spirit of the women who wear it.” The scent is composed of two main notes, the synthetic molecules of tuberose and sandalwood.

"POP is a spirit. It’s about celebrating that exciting time when you are coming into your own. It’s about freedom, and starting your life away from judgments or labels." Faces of the fragrance campaign are Lourdes “Lola” Leon Ciccone, the Canadian singer Claire Elise Boucher, aka Grimes, actress Amandla Stenberg and Kenya Kinski-Jones. The bottle iss designed in simply cut, pure, transparent glass with a round, vivid pink cap.
